Re: Depth, need help.

Ok , for the first , what is actually depth? Depth is like , go to the sea , look at a ship , put your finger over it , hth is bigger? The deffiniton of depth can be made like = as further the object moves away from you , as smaller will it seem. For a more detailed definition , check wikipedia.
How to make it? Erm , well , there isn't a specific technique . The easiest way to do it is with blur , but you can make it with objects ( a plane and a city in the focal's back , etc).
Hope i helped.

What he said, Depth is basically simple really. Just use an element to create sense in the sig.

Re: Depth, need help.

I like how Exile explained it..
One thing the above forgot to mention, C4D's. Althought they can be over used, they help. C4D's are 3D images made by Cinema 4D. They help if placed correctly...but the top three are Blur tool/Objects in the distance (like exile said) and C4D's

Hope i helped a bit

Re: Depth, need help.

Well that helps a bit. In all my sigs, they have depth problems. Thanks for the advice!

Re: Depth, need help.

Depth is like.. making something more realistic.
Try to make sizes to a scale that would be more normal and look like it would in real life.

Re: Depth, need help.

When working with depth you will need to keep in mind a couple of things:

Lighting- Pay close attention to where your light source is in the stocks you use, and try to align your light source there. A 100-150 pixel soft brush will usually do the trick, but you may need to add a lighting effect. Gradients can also help boost the lighting of a tag.

Blur and Sharpen- Naturally, the further something is away, the harder it is for your eyes to focus on it. In real life, the thing you see most clearly is almost in the middle distance. So, in a tag, you would want to sharpen the "middle ground", blur (slightly) the background, and blur (tremendously, or whatever looks good) something that is incredibly close. Note: All tags usually take place in "middle ground", so you don't have to worry about blurring up close objects.

Size- Simply, and as Exile explained, an airplane that can be covered by your thumb is bound to be further away than one that is sitting right next to you. So, if you have an object in your background, the closer it will seem, the bigger you make it and vice-versa. If you want to sell an object's long distance from the focal, then don't make it bigger than that focal. The free-transform (can be found in the 'edit' drop-down menu) can scale items, just remember to hold shift while dragging to constrain proportions.

I hope this helped!
