Whether his attitude towards me will change or not, I just hope he sees that I deeply wish for his return, if he can.

Well, you're always welcome here, as is hybrid. Thank you for apologizing to him, I know he will appreciate it.
Just know that you aren't the sole reason he retired. True, it had an impact, but I also think it released some of the stress of running the site as an administrator. I'm not sure, I can't speak for him, but my philosophy is.. what happens, happens.
