| How to make a cool text effect [GIMP] TUTORIAL BY: PALNAGA IMAGE BY: PALNAGA IMPORTANT EDIT: The font used in this tutorial is the Space Age Font from dafont.com made by Justin Callaghan. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this thread I will be showing you how to make this: ![]() Step 1: Open up a new GIMP document about 400x150 or so pixels. Once you have opened the new document, fill your canvas with black: __________________________________________________ __________ ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 2: Now we want to create an "outer space" effect. To do this, run an "HSV Noise" (Filters > Noise > HSV Noise) with the following settings: __________________________________________________ __________ ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------- Then your canvas should look something like this: __________________________________________________ __________ ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------- I renamed this layer, "Stars". That's a lot of stars though, so we need to cut back on that which leads me to... Step 3: Click on "Brightness and Contrast" (Colors > Brightness-Contrast) and set the following: Brightness: -35 Contrast 55 And your canvas should look something like the below picture: __________________________________________________ __________ ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 4: Create 3 new layers and make them like this: 1. Background. This layer should be entirely black. Position this layer at the bottom of the "Layers" Dialog. 2. Coloring. This layer should be entirely Transparent. Position this layer 3rd from the top in the "Layers" Dialog. 3. A Text layer. This layer can have whatever text you want on it, but for the purposes of this tutorial, I simply put my name, "Matt". Position this layer 2nd from the top in the "Layers" Dialog and set the Layer Mode to "Overlay". Then position the "Stars" layer at the very top of the "Layers" Dialog and set the Layer Mode to "Overlay". A little confused? No problem, this GIF should help out: __________________________________________________ __________ ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 5: All right, now it's time to color the image. Make sure the "Coloring" layer is selected in the "Layers" Dialog. Select the Paintbrush and then make sure you have the following settings: Brush: Circle Fuzzy (19) Scale: 1.00 Check the box labeled "Color from gradient" and select "Deep Sea" as the active gradient. Set the Length to 100 pixels, and set the Repeat to Triangular Wave. __________________________________________________ __________ ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------- Now just brush around on the "Coloring" Layer, and make sure you get more blue than black so that the stars and text show through. When you're finally finished you should have something a little like this: __________________________________________________ __________ ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------- OPTIONAL: Step 6: Adjusting Brightness levels: If the picture came out too dark for you, you can use the "Brightness-Contrast" tool on the "Coloring" Layer to bring up the brightness, making the text easier to see: __________________________________________________ __________ ![]() --------------------------------------------------------------------- And that's it! You're done! You can mess around with different brush sizes and shapes, as well as different gradients if you want. TUTORIAL BY: PALNAGA IMAGE BY: PALNAGA And by the way...
