Gimp Tut [Made by Me!]

1. Open up a document, any size. (I chose 300 x 100)

2. Put in your stock, resize and move if nessacery.

3. Smudge with a hard 13 px brush, give some flow.

4. Set to Normal, 40 Opacity. Erase over focal too.

5. Create Duplicate by going Copy Visible -> Paste. Run a B+W Gradient Map. Set to Colour at 30.5 Opacity. ADD LIGHTING SOURCE NOW!

6. Flatten Image and then create duplicate. Filters -> Map -> Displace. Leave on default settings. Soft light. 34 Opacity.

7. [optionall] Add pentooling now if you want to.

8. Flatten Image now. New Layer. Filters -> Render -> Clouds -> Plasma. Leave on default settings.

9. Set that layer to colour, 50 opacity. Erase off focal.

10. Add two pentooling lines that follow the flow. Make them two contrasting colours. Set to Normal, 53 opacity.

11. Create duplicate and blur 4 times. Soft Light at 34 Opacity.

12. Create duplicate and sharpen on 22. Flatten image.

13. [optional] Create a Clipping mask on a dotty/ vector brush.

14. Flatten Image. Begin doing gradient maps to suit you.

15. Add text, border and anything else!

You should have something like this:
